CBS News 8 San Diego reported on a class action lawsuit brought by Silver Golub & Teitell against Epic Games alleging that the popular video game Fortnite collects and uses the personal information of minor children in violation of state and federal law.
The lawsuit, filed on behalf of a group of children and their parents, says Epic Games unlawfully captured screen names, location and biometric data of users who were under the age of 13 without parental consent, the outlet reported. Epic Games mined the personal information from Fortnite players to develop lucrative merchandising and advertising opportunities, according to the lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in San Diego on March 18.
"Epic Games has made billions of dollars selling products to a target audience of children by collecting their personal information in violation of state and federal law," Silver Golub & Teitell counsel Jennifer Sclar told CBS New 8.
Ms. Sclar is representing the plaintiffs along with partner Ian Sloss, counsel Johnathan Seredynski and associates Krystyna Gancoss and Kate Sayed.
