Silver Golub & Teitell LLP Investigates Class Action Claims for Connecticut Residents Affected by PowerSchool Data Breach

STAMFORD, CT – Silver Golub & Teitell LLP is investigating potential class action claims on behalf of Connecticut citizens impacted by the recent PowerSchool data breach.

PowerSchool, a widely used education technology provider serving more than 18,000 schools and 60 million students across North America, confirmed in early January 2025 that hackers had gained unauthorized access to its school information system (SIS) through its customer support portal, PowerSource. The breach reportedly resulted from compromised credentials and impacted school districts nationwide, including several in Connecticut.

According to media reports Connecticut school districts affected by the PowerSchool data breach include Ridgefield, Milford, Wallingford, Danbury, Region 16, East Hartford, Southington, Colchester, Rocky Hill, Falls Village, and Norwalk.

The exposed student data allegedly includes names, addresses, Social Security numbers, grades, student IDs, passwords, parent information, and medical details. Teachers’ personal information, including Social Security numbers and contact details, was also compromised. Disturbingly, schools affected by the breach have stated that hackers may have accessed all historical student and teacher data, potentially including information about parental access rights, restraining orders, and medication requirements for students.

PowerSchool has acknowledged the breach but has not disclosed how many schools, students, or teachers were impacted. Reports suggest that as many as 62 million students and 9.5 million teachers may have had personal information compromised.

If you have received a notice from a school district that your data was exposed in the breach, you may have viable legal claims against PowerSchool. Silver Golub & Teitell LLP is evaluating potential class action claims, including privacy violations, out-of-pocket expenses, and other damages.
